The Mompreneur's Summer Break Checklist: Set Yourself Up Before School's Ou

Hey, it’s Alicia again, and I am here to help some moms mentally prepare for the Summer! Summer break is coming in hot, and before the backpacks hit the floor and the "I'm bored" begins, there is one thing the smartest mompreneurs do: they prep. It’s the only way I survive. A little planning now means way less chaos later…especially with two kids.
Here is what to do the week before break starts:
01. Batch your content in advance
I don’t have time to create more content during the summer months, so I pack in as much as I can beforehand to schedule it out ahead of time.
02. Talk to your kids about your business
Communication depends on your children’s ages and abilities. My youngest is non-speaking, so while I do talk to both of my kids about our plans, my oldest can better comprehend what our days look like, why I work, who I work with, and why it matters. This conversation usually inspires her and reminds her that I’m not just “her mom”.
03. Share your schedule with your kids
My oldest knows about important dates. I always say, “This is when we get to co-work together”. I tell her we will get dressed, go to the studio, get a coffee date, bring things to create art with, or journal. This helps my kids see into my work world and be by my side. If I can, I try to find things for them to watch, or help with that, to make them feel like they are part of the job. For years she thought Mango Marketing Co. was a t-shirt company from helping with our mango merch…not a digital marketing and design studio.
04. Set up a fake workspace for your kids
Let them start their own businesses where they “work” in an inspiring space alongside you. Kids love to pretend, push them to build and create. My oldest has started so many adorable “businesses” of her own.
05. Give your clients a heads up
Tell your clients that your kids are on Summer break. Hours might be more inconsistent, and always leave your vacation responder on, which helps clients answer some questions on their own. We started doing this all the time because it has become helpful year round.Summer break does not have to derail you. But, I’d be lying if I didn’t say it always takes me a bit to adjust to the schedule.
Summer is a great time to outsource instead of starting new. Allow Mango Marketing Co. to handle your marketing and social media this Summer, enjoy time at the pool with your kids, and get back to the bigger biz things after the Summer.
