5 ways to leave better comments (Advice from our Social Media Manager)
First and most important tip: don’t use ChatGPT to write comments. Trust me, people can tell when a comment is generic and not thoughtful. If you want to create a real community online, you need to be personal and authentic.
Why is leaving comments so important? If you want to grow on social media, you have to engage with other accounts. Community isn’t only built in person; it’s just as important to make a real community online. When you show up on other people’s posts, they’ll come back to you when you post something. Organic engagement signals to the algorithm that your content is interesting, so it gets shown to more people.
A good comment can make people click on your profile, follow you, and even become potential clients.
Here are some tips to leave better comments that make people actually notice you:
Really read the post and understand what the person is saying. Don’t just drop “slaaayyy,” “sameeee,” or a bunch of emojis. Build a comment that resonates with you and connects to what they shared.
Ask questions! The more interaction on posts, the better for the algorithm. A question is an easy way to start a conversation and make the person feel connected with you.
Highlight the creator, not just your own opinions. Be genuine, not generic.
Find a way to connect by offering insight related to your niche. For example, if you’re a photographer and someone posts a video with pose tips for models, you could comment:“That’s so accurate! I always direct my models to do that second pose, it looks so spontaneous. I also tell them to make a triangle with their arm or leg to avoid looking robotic in photos. What’s your favorite one?” Everyone who reads your comment will understand what service you offer, and you create a connection while engaging the creator at the same time.
Be consistent and show up! Leaving thoughtful comments regularly builds recognition and trust. The more people see you adding value, the more likely they are to check out your content and follow you.
Every seed you plant comes back to you. Treat others the way you want to be treated online.
