Running a business is hard enough without money stress pulling your focus. Good habits with money tend to carry over into how you run your company. If you are thinking of starting a business and don't have the best money decisions, work on them now. Having a business definitely amplifies those errors. Here are some good things that have come from a shift in money mindset:

You make calmer decisions. When your personal finances are steady, you don't chase every opportunity out of fear. You can wait for the right client or the right deal.

You separate business and personal money early. Owners who track their own spending tend to set up business accounts and bookkeeping sooner, which saves headaches at tax time. We highly suggest things like High Yield Savings Accounts and QuickBooks.

You get comfortable with numbers. Checking your bank balance regularly builds a habit of checking business numbers too, like cash flow and profit margin. This is where things like Dubsado and QuickBooks come in handy!

You save before you need to. An emergency fund at home often turns into a cash reserve in the business, which gives you room to handle a slow month without panic. This is where a high yield savings (a personal and business) one Is helpful. A great rule of thumb is to have your bills on auto-pay and savings on auto-save.

You spend on purpose. People who plan their personal spending tend to plan business spending the same way, putting money toward growth instead of random expenses.

Our little reminder (that we need to be reminded of): Good money habits don't start in your business. They start in your own bank account, one small choice at a time.
