The Difference Between a Website Designer and a Website Developer
As a company that offers web design, we’re often met with clients who aren’t really sure what the difference is between a web designer vs. a web developer. This common question is easy to explain, and we’re happy to dive in!
The architect vs. the interior designer
Think of a web developer as the architect and a web designer as the interior designer. Web designers work on the structure, format, features, and behind-the-scenes parts of the site, developing functions and processes that make the site work efficiently and effectively. Once those features are in place, web designers focus on making the site visually engaging and exciting to use. Web developers create the system, then web designers create the experience.
Skill sets
Although equally important, web designers and developers also carry different skillsets. Web developers write code that instructs the function of features like a checkout page, but web designers make sure the checkout page experience is intuitive and flows easily for the user from a visual and experiential standpoint. There are many professionals that have overlapping skillsets and can do “a little of everything”, but a web developer who specializes in coding language and a design professional who is a graphic design wizard are working in very different disciplines.
What Mango does
At Mango, we offer exciting and engaging web design for women-led businesses and creatives via the WIX platform. Platforms like this engage their own developers to create website frames that we customize using their existing features. This saves you time and money on a web developer without having to sacrifice the importance of having a one-of-a-kind, branded website. There are some cases where a separate developer is needed, but for the purposes of the businesses we serve, these services have worked well!
