Blogging has changed a lot over the years, and it’s not just for lifestyle bloggers or book lovers or travelers anymore. It’s for you and your business. There are many reasons your business needs a blog, but we’re going to look at five of those.
1. It helps drive traffic to your business
A blog on your business site means you’re not just posting words, you’re optimising for SEO and keywords. Those keywords are going to be what people are typing into Google.
By answering their questions and providing details to things that your ideal customer or client is looking for, your blog is going to be recommended to them … which is going to bring those people onto your website, exactly where you want them.
Your ideal client/customer might not know that they need your specific help. But they know they need some sort of solution.
Your blog helps drive traffic to your business, where you can provide that solution for them. They are suddenly aware of your business and how you might be able to help them.
2: It generates leads and sales
That traffic that is now coming into your website? Those are people who might just turn into clients or customers. What would happen if every single blog post you write brought in sales for your business?
Whether they’re clicking a link in your blog post that will lead them to a service or product, or they’re seeing other opportunities around your website when they visit … that’s a potential sale, right there. All because you published a blog post.
3: Your authority in your field goes up
You know that you’re good at what you do, but other people might not. When you’re blogging for your business, you’re able to increase your authority in your niche or your field. Which is absolutely what you want!
You want people to think of you when they have a particular problem or need that you can help with. By publishing blog posts, you’re able to grow that trust, prove that you know what you’re doing (no matter what type of business you have), and build up that authority in your area.
4: You can showcase your skills and add value
As just mentioned, blogging allows you to showcase your skills. And this will look different depending on your niche.
A few examples:
You’re a copywriter: A blog post will show potential clients how you write and that you know how to string sentences together.
You’re a travel agent: Writing itineraries for various cities or countries allows fellow travelers to see what kind of trip you could curate for them.
You’re a life coach: By writing about life’s wonders and challenges, you’re showcasing that you think deeply about the things that people might be coming to you for.
No matter what your area of expertise, having a blog for your business means that you can showcase those skills and add value to people’s lives before they decide to work with you.
5: You’re able to build relationships
This may seem a bit out of the blue compared to the others, but I think it’s an important point to make.
Blogging can help you build community with your readers and your customers. I’ve found over the years that I have read blogs regularly, followed both people and businesses, shared their content, been excited when they release new things, and built friendships with those people.
Relationships matter. And even if you never meet your customers (hopefully you'll meet your clients if you’re service-based!), if you’re ready to build those relationships, even online, then not only are they more likely to come back to your blog or business, but you’ll also gain new friends. Which we love!
So what now?
Those are just five reasons your business needs a blog, but there are plenty more. Now you just need to figure out what to write about and get to publishing!
If writing a blog post on a regular basis sounds like ‘just another thing to add to the to-do list’, then look, I get it. Luckily, you can still have a blog for your business and not write it yourself.
Blog posts are easy to outsource, and Mango Marketing has a Blog Copywriting service that you can utilize.
