Black Friday 2024: Do's and Don't For Your Small Biz

Black Friday: Do’s and Don’ts for Your Biz

Black Friday is like the Super Bowl of shopping. For businesses, it’s a huge opportunity to ramp up the sales before the end of the year. Whether you’re a Black Friday rookie and this is your first time or a seasoned vet, here are some friendly do’s and don’ts to make sure you nail it this year.

DO: Start Planning Early

“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail” - Benjamin Franklin -  Ben knew what he was talking about… the earlier you start, the better! Decide on your deals and promotions well in advance, then prep all marketing materials and spread the word. Use social media, email marketing, and flyers to let your customers know what to expect. The more hype you create beforehand, the bigger the turnout!

DON’T: Overwhelm Your Customers

It’s tempting to throw every product you have on sale. But if you bombard your customers with too many options, they’ll likely get confused and give up. Keep it simple. Highlight your top products and best deals—those are what will drive the most excitement.

HOT TIP: Make sure your website or store layout is clear and easy to navigate.

DO: Offer Exclusive Deals

Everyone loves to feel special, and Black Friday is when people are expecting a deal they can’t get any other time of the year.. Maybe it’s an exclusive product, a special gift with purchase, or even early access to deals for your loyal customers. The key is to create something that makes your business stand out from the crowd.

DON’T: Ignore Inventory

This is a classic Black Friday mistake. Running out of stock mid-sale can frustrate your customers and hurt your reputation. Make sure you’ve got enough inventory of your best-selling items, and set up a system to track sales in real time. If something’s running low, be proactive and let your customers know asap to reduce further confusion.

DO: Focus on Customer Experience

Whether your customers are shopping online or in-store, the experience matters. Make sure your website is fast, mobile-friendly, and easy to use. If you have a physical store, ensure it’s well-staffed and ready for the rush. Small touches like free coffee or cheerful decorations will create a memorable shopping experience.

DON’T: Forget About Following Up

Black Friday is just the beginning! Once the sales are over, follow up with your customers. Send thank-you emails, ask for feedback, and even offer a special deal for their next purchase. Building relationships is what turns Black Friday shoppers into loyal customers.
