3 Women Founders You Should Know About This Women’s History Month

As a woman-owned business and certified girls girls, we at Mango Marketing Co. are always up for supporting women who are doing the dang thing. These three women founders are absolutely doing that and more. We are big fans, and we think you will be too!

Nadya Okamoto is first. At just 16, Nadya founded PERIOD. which is a non-profit menstrual movement that is youth-focused and tackles issues like period poverty and the stigma around periods.Their work focuses on actions like advocacy, education, and community service. Learn more about period poverty and their actions to reduce it here.

The Harvard graduate is also a co-founder of the period care August which offers “period care for everyone who menstruates.” August is inclusive, transparent, and focuses heavily on sustainability.

Nadya is also an author and speaker. She wrote her book, “Period Power” at age 20 and recently launched her podcast “Tigress.” Most recently she has been recognized in Forbes 30 under 30, Bloomberg 50 “Ones to Watch” and People Magazine's Women Changing the World

We love knowing that women like Nadya are out there fighting hard for women's health and safety while educating our youth on women’s bodies and period care.

Rachel Cargle is an author, activist, and speaker who created The Loveland Foundation after an overwhelming response, to the tune of $250k, from a post she made in 2018 sharing that her birthday wish was therapy access for Black Women and Girls. The Loveland Foundation houses a therapy fund that allows Black Women, Girls, and Nonbinary folks to receive 4-12 free vouchers for therapy, with access to resources for reduced-cost therapy following the use of their vouchers.

The foundation’s programming has since expanded to include professional development and continuing education access to therapists who serve clients through the Loveland Foundation Therapy Fund, ensuring that recipients have access to practitioners who are committed to providing a high standard of care.

Since 2019 The Loveland Foundation has provided over 23,000 individuals with free therapy and offered professional development services to over 8,000 therapists.

She is also the founder of The Loveland Group which houses a number of other ventures including Elizabeth’s Workshop & Writing Center. This Ohio-based, independent bookstore is an “innovative literacy space designed to amplify, celebrate, and honor the work of writers who are often excluded from traditional cultural, social and academic canons.”

Rachel is well known for her activist work and education on the intersections of race and gender. We love this quote from her interview on the CTZN Podcast because it’s an important reminder this Women’s History Month of what exactly we should be fighting for. In her interview with Kerri Kelly, she says, “If your feminism is intended to have equality with white men, then you will automatically be oppressing someone.”

Let Rachel’s words stick with you this month, and moving forward, as a reminder that we are fighting for new systems and ways that let everyone live and thrive, not fighting for ways to force everyone into a system that was never designed for everyone to thrive.

Sheena Zadeh-Daly rounds out our list as the founder of the beloved clean beauty brand, Kosas. Combining her fine art education with her business degree and love for all things beauty, Kosas is known for its clinically tested, skin-protective formulas that are created with even the most sensitive skin in mind.

Kosas also works on ethically sourcing products like Mica and stays committed to over 2,700 banned ingredients. They’re also Leaping Bunny certified and work with manufacturers that use green energy initiatives.

In an interview for Into the Gloss, Sheena states “It started with lipstick. I was always reaching for that ‘your lips but better’ shade, but it was hard with my olive skin tone. I wanted shades that look truly human—not beige, but actual flesh tones. I also wanted to formulate products in a very specific way. I wanted to put those two things together and put it out in the world with so much love and intention.”

Her passion for beauty that brings out the best in each individual person has led her to create a bold brand that is loved by many with no signs of slowing down.
