What is the purpose of Out of Home Marketing? Out Of Home Marketing can be defined as marketing that reaches consumers outside of their home but we know it the most as "Billboards"
So, What is Out of Home Marketing?
Out of Home Marketing (OOH) encompasses a variety of advertising strategies designed to reach consumers while they are outside of their homes. (Duh, we said that, but let's go a little bit deeper). This form of marketing includes various formats, but one of the most recognizable and widely utilized is the billboard. (Duh, said that again, so let's go even *deeper*)
Billboards are large outdoor advertisements that are strategically placed in high-traffic areas to capture the attention of passersby via driving or on-foot. The primary purpose of Out of Home Marketing, particularly through billboards, is to create brand awareness and promote products or services. The audience is broad but your messaging should still be niche.
While billboards are designed to reach a broad audience, they can also be strategically placed to target specific demographics. For example, we put our billboard in South Philadelphia. This year has a high concentration of millennial home buyers, small business owners and access to several highways.
You'd want to choose locations based on the characteristics of the surrounding population, such as age, income level, and lifestyle preference.
They say that people need to see something 7-21 times to buy it. Billboards offer something called brand recall. The repetitive exposure to billboard advertisements reinforces brand recognition. When consumers frequently see a brand's message, it becomes ingrained in their memory.
For added bonuses, billboards may feature a hashtag or a QR code that encourages viewers to engage with the brand online. We decided to just include our website and have social media to engage with the billboard instead of the other way around.
The downside is measuring the effectiveness of Out of Home Marketing. It can be challenging to get a strong idea of the return on investment (ROI). The reminder should always be that there are multiple ways to track ROI and brand awareness is a long term game. Our Billboard was designed by us and done through Clear Channel Outdoor
