When was the last time you checked on your website SEO? If you don’t remember when, it’s time! While SEO is an ongoing process, it’s important to schedule time to refresh and optimize on a regular basis. While we recommend tweaking and optimizing your SEO content at least quarterly, a full refresh is needed about once a year, and summer is a great time to do it! Here are 4 things to look for when deciding whether or not it’s time for an SEO refresh.
Underperforming Content
When tracking the performance of certain pages, buttons, and links, make note of any areas that aren’t getting the traffic they deserve. Check for broken links and outdated information. If nothing is wrong there, you might need some improved SEO to get these pages ranking. Check all your alt text in your images as a starting point.
Poor Mobile Function
Google prioritizes mobile-friendly sites, so a poor mobile site experience can hurt your overall SEO results. Make sure your site is optimized for mobile viewing and remember to check the mobile view each time you make any site updates. Check for things like loading speeds, the orientation and spacing of your content, and design integrity as compared to the desktop and tablet versions of your site.
Relevant Keywords
Do you need to optimize your keywords? Quality website copy boosts SEO ranking. If you’re a location-based business, do you have local city and state keywords on your website? Have you added any services that you need to mention on your site so that you’re showing up in the correct search results? Consider user search habits and what terms they’re searching for when enhancing your website copy.
Title Tags and Meta Descriptions
If you haven’t been diligent about these in the past, having missing title tags and meta descriptions is hurting your SEO. Before even worrying about a refresh, go back and make sure these are filled in for all existing pages. If you have images without alt text, add that in too! Once this is done, keep an eye on your analytics for more insight as to which pages might need additional SEO help.
